Statement

Date: July 29, 2019
Location: Gilroy, CA

Today, Reps. Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) and Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), who jointly represent the City of Gilroy, issued the following statement in response to the tragic violence that occurred on July 28, on the closing day of the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

"The city of Gilroy, and our constituents, are now among a very sobering group of communities that have endured a mass shooting. It is heartbreaking what the families and loved ones of the victims, and those injured, face in the wake of this tragedy. Our condolences are with them.

"Thank you to all the first responders in Gilroy and from neighboring jurisdictions who continue to work heroically to help those impacted during this tragedy. Without the quick response of law enforcement, first responders, and event volunteers, this horrific event may have been even more deadly.

"We pledge to support, and work with, local law enforcement as well as federal, state and other local officials who will continue to investigate this shooting."
