Statement of Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin on Budget Cuts

Congresswoman Baldwin will vote NO on the $54 billion in budget cuts. Here is her statement:

"Let's be clear-the only reason Republicans are seeking to devastate our nation's safety net is to fund a new $70 billion tax break for the wealthiest Americans. These cuts have nothing to do with paying for the war in Iraq or the costs of Hurricane Katrina. These cuts are just one more example of this Administration and Congress seeking to enrich the few at the expense of the many."

"Make no mistake, these devastating slashes in the web of our nation's safety net will pay for tax cuts for the wealthy, not body armor for our troops, not prescription drugs for seniors, not teachers in our classrooms, and not homeland security. This kind of class warfare is divisive, punitive, and frankly, un-American."
