Senate Confirms Mark Esper for Secretary of Defense

Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Acting Secretary of Defense Mark Esper to serve as the Secretary of Defense by a vote of 90 to 8. U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, supported the nomination.

"Secretary Esper's service as the Secretary of the Army for the past two years has demonstrated that he is an effective leader who understands the threats facing our nation. I appreciated Secretary Esper's honesty and thorough understanding of the importance of a strong national defense, something that came across clearly during his confirmation hearing. Now that he's been confirmed, I look forward to continuing to work closely with him on today's national security challenges," said Senator Fischer.
