Schatz Leads Senators In Effort To Block Trump Administration From Obtaining, Politicizing Citizenship Information

Today U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai"i) led a group of senators in pushing back against President Trump's executive action ordering federal agencies to turn over citizenship data from existing government records for political purposes. Schatz introduced new legislation, supported by 13 senators, to overturn Trump's executive order.

"It is sad to see the lengths this administration will go to politicize citizenship data and distort our democracy. Three courts have ruled against their efforts, and yet they won't stop. So we're not going to stop either," Senator Schatz said.

The legislation to overturn Trump's executive order is cosponsored by U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawai"i), and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.).
