Allen: "The Cost of This Job-Killing Legislation is Just Too High"

U.S. Congressman Rick W. Allen (R-GA-12) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 582, legislation that would mandate a $15 minimum wage nationwide.

"With estimated job losses as high as almost 4 million nationwide and slightly under 100,000 in Georgia, the cost of this job-killing legislation is just too high. As a businessman, I know that our economy is all about supply and demand--and with more job openings than job seekers, wages are bound to rise; you have to pay more to keep talent. In fact, in 2018, wages and salaries saw the largest increase in more than a decade thanks to an economic environment led by the Republican led Congress and President Trump that has spurred economic growth and prosperity. The last thing we need are more one-size-fits-all Washington mandates that could lead to jobs lost, cut hours for workers or automation, and ultimately shut the doors of our nation's small businesses."
