Rubio: Puerto Ricans Should Not Be Punished for the Wrongdoings of Politicians

Statement

Today, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released a video addressing the calls for Governor Ricardo Rosselló to resign following allegations of corruption in his administration.

"I'm not going to opine on whether Governor Rosselló should resign because I'm not a voter in Puerto Rico, he's not accountable to me. What I can tell you, as a Federal official who cares a lot about Puerto Rico and its future, is that this controversy has made it more difficult to work on behalf of Puerto Rico. And I can tell you that as long as Governor Rosselló is in his position it's going to make it difficult, it's going to be hard to get passed some of these things. We're going to continue to do everything we can, because I don't believe that the people of Puerto Rico should be punished for the wrongdoings of politicians. It's certainly harder because of this controversy, and as long as Governor Rosselló is in the Governor's mansion."
