Turner Supports Permanent Reauthorization of 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Through 2090

Statement

Today, Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10) joined a majority of members in the House of Representatives in passing the permanent reauthorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund through fiscal year 2090. Turner was an early co-sponsor of the bill this Congress.

"Our country owes a debt of gratitude to the brave law enforcement and first responders who courageously sacrificed their well-being to save the lives of so many Americans when we were under attack by terrorists," said Turner. "I have long supported the permanent reauthorization of the 9/11 victims compensation fund and was an early co-sponsor of this bill. Today the House acted to ensure these men and women receive the compensation they deserve. I am so pleased this distinct group of law enforcement and first responders will no longer have to live in limbo. I sincerely thank them for their bravery and service."

The Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act would:

Provide funding for victims through FY2090,
Allow claims to be filed until October 2089,
Require VCF policies and procedures to be reassessed at least once every five years (currently, at least once annually),
Require claimants to be paid for the amount by which a claim was reduced on the basis of insufficient funding,
Remove the cap on noneconomic damages in certain circumstances, and
Adjust the annual limit on economic loss compensation for inflation.
