"Today, Leader McConnell has scheduled a vote on a nominee to fill a California-based judicial seat in the 9th Circuit.
Unfortunately, that nominee, Daniel Bress, is a Washington, DC lawyer who has barely lived in California since high school."
"Mr. Bress checks the usual boxes for GOP judicial nominees -- he's young, has a track record of siding with big corporations, & is a longtime member of the Federalist Society.
What's different is that he is not, by any reasonable standard, a member of the legal community in CA."
"The CA bar lists him as an out-of-state attorney, he belongs to no legal societies or organizations in the state, & he has worked on only a handful of matter in CA courts. He owns no property in the state and does not even have a CA driver's license."
"And Mr. Bress's nomination is opposed by both of California's Senators and by every single Democrat on the Judiciary Committee."
"Senators who vote to confirm Mr. Bress are opening the door for out-of-state attorneys to be seated in circuit court judgeships in their own states, over their own objections. I hope my colleagues will join me in voting no -- don't allow for this dangerous precedent to be set."
