Cities of Cambridge and Curtis Receive WaterSMART Grants

Statement

Today, the United States Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation announced that Nebraska is one of 13 states receiving a WaterSMART Program grant. The city of Cambridge will receive $1.5 million to complete the Meeker-Driftwood Canal Automation Project. It was also announced that an additional $1.5 million will go towards the Remove Meter Monitoring and Irrigation Water Conservation Project of the MRNRD in Curtis, Nebraska.

"It's great to see deserving Nebraska communities receive these federal grants to help complete important projects across our state. The WaterSMART grants will allow the people of Cambridge and Curtis to use water more efficiently."

Projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming were selected to receive grants. Examples of projects that are receiving funding include replacing unlined canals with pipe or a lining, installing flow measurement for real-time monitoring of water deliveries, advanced meters for residences that will help inform them about water use, or improving irrigation scheduling by installing moisture probes and irrigation system monitoring.
