Gianforte Applauds Announcement of Affordable Clean Energy Rule

Congressman Greg Gianforte today joined Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler and White House Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney at the EPA's signing of the Affordable Clean Energy Rule. The rule replaces the Obama administration's overreaching Clean Power Plan (CPP) which was halted from implementation by the U.S. Supreme Court.

"I appreciate the work of EPA Administrator Wheeler and President Trump to repeal the Clean Power Plan and help end the war on coal. I welcome this new rule that will help reduce emissions, maintain state authority and flexibility, and recognizes the important role that innovation and modernization can play in our existing coal generation facilities." Gianforte said.

The Affordable Clean Energy Rule gives more authority to the states to regulate pollution standards. It supports energy diversity and focuses on innovation and improving efficiency at existing facilities.

Gianforte has been an opponent of the Obama-era war on coal. The CPP's federal overreach would have hurt Montana's coal industry and economy, while dramatically increasing electricity prices for Montanans.
