Wyden Statement on Treasury Secretary Mnuchin's Testimony on Harriet Tubman $20 Bill

Statement

Date: June 14, 2019

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on reports that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin misled the House Financial Services Committee about putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill:

"Reporting from the New York Times indicates that Secretary Mnuchin provided misleading testimony about the administration's failure to meet the 2020 deadline to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill. Rather than technical delays, it appears the administration simply does not want to see an African-American woman placed on our currency. Congress needs answers about how far along the redesign was before Secretary Mnuchin blocked it."
