Delgado Applauds House Passage of the American Dream and Promise Act

Today, Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) applauded House passage of legislation he co-sponsors, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019, which provides a pathway to citizenship to Dreamers -- young people who were brought to this country as kids -- and those who have Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status.

"I'm proud to join my colleagues in voting for the American Dream and Promise Act to allow Dreamers to continue to contribute to our nation and economy. This landmark legislation provides a permanent legislative solution to address the uncertainty Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status, and Deferred Enforced Status holders face daily." Delgado continued, "These are people who fled unthinkable conditions in their home countries, or who came to the U.S. as children as their families sought an opportunity at the American Dream. I urge the Senate to take up and pass this legislation to give Dreamers, TPS and those with DED status peace of mind and an opportunity to continue to enrich our communities."

The Dream and Promise Act of 2019 provides a pathway to citizenship for three groups of individuals: Dreamers, who entered the country as children and have fulfilled other requirements such as graduating from high school, getting a job, or joining the military; and those with Temporary Protected Status or Deferred Enforced Departure status, designations granted by the president to individuals living in specific countries with dangerously unsafe living conditions.

Delgado is an original cosponsor of the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019, and he joined a press conference with his colleagues to introduce the bill.
