Lujan Statement on Vote to Protect DREAMers

Statement

Date: June 4, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) issued the following statement on the passage of the American Dream and Promise Act:

"This a momentous day for DREAMers, their families, and all individuals who celebrate the beauty of diversity in America. Months after President Trump cruelly forced these young men and women into chaos, House Democrats have fought to bring stability and certainty to thousands of individuals across New Mexico and the country who are Americans in every way that matters. This vote makes clear that the doors of opportunity for DREAMers and immigrants who contribute to our communities will remain open despite bigoted attacks by the Trump administration. Our nation is made stronger and better by its immigrant communities and I'm proud to have stood strongly as their ally today.

"I call on Mitch McConnell and his Republican Senate to immediately pass the American Dream and Promise Act - it is the right thing to do for our country and to uphold our values as Americans."
