CONGRESSMAN ADERHOLT STATEMENT ON HARRIET MIERS WITHDRAWING SUPREME COURT NOMINATION

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today made the following statement on Harriet Miers withdrawing her nomination to be the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States:

"I was disappointed to learn of Harriet Miers withdrawing her nomination, especially before the Senate had the opportunity to hold hearings and find out more about her. When I have talked with people who know Harriet Miers they have said she has an impressive work ethic and is extremely intelligent and humble. Her personal and professional background would have been a great addition to the Court.

"I trust that the President's next nominee will have some of the same characteristics as Ms. Miers. It is certainly in the Nation's best interest to move along with this process quickly and thoroughly and to approve a judge who will not legislate from the bench and will uphold our Constitution as the framers intended."
