Stefanik Co-Leads Legislation to Push for More Prosthetics Availability for Women Veterans

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is co-leading legislation with Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH) to direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to submit a report to Congress on the availability of prosthetics for women veterans. The VA has a long history of developing and providing state-of-the-art prosthetic technology and rehabilitation services for Veterans with amputations. Unfortunately, the research is largely focused on developing prosthetics for men, and has failed to take the difference in women's body types into account during the creation of this technology.

"The VA has led the way on prosthetics development that has changed the lives of countless veterans and service members," said Congresswoman Stefanik. "This bipartisan legislation pushes for further research into how to best develop this incredible technology to fit women's bodies. There are over two million women veterans in the United States who have made immense sacrifices in service to our Nation, and I am honored to co-lead this bill to serve them. I am looking forward to reading the VA's report on how we can swiftly bridge this gap in prosthetics technology."
