He broadcasts live Q&A show across Asia and beyond Wednesday, October 26th
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ed Case will broadcast live from Washington, D.C. throughout Asia tomorrow, Wednesday, October 26th on the Voice of America. He is appearing on VOA's interview/Q&A program "Issues and Opinions" to discuss U.S. and international issues involving Asia, the Middle East and elsewhere.
"I am truly humbled to represent our Hawaii and country on the Voice of America," said Case. "Growing up, VOA always inspired me with its message of hope, freedom and democracy going out over the airwaves to hundreds of millions worldwide, so the opportunity now to talk story' internationally with so many who still look to our country for responsible and fair leadership in our world is exciting."
VOA invited Case onto the program, which focuses on Asia, based on his representation of multiethnic, Asia-focused Hawaii and his recent visits to China and the Middle East.
"There are so many difficult and challenging issues involving the Asia-Pacific region to consider honestly and frankly with our neighbors. This will be a unique opportunity to reach people in China to discuss that country's explosive economic, military and social growth and the major role it will play over the coming decades," said Case, a member of the U.S.-China Working Group which is comprised of House Republicans and Democrats focused on raising congressional and public awareness of China issues.
"I'm especially intrigued that perhaps some citizens of China, who told me when I was there that they looked to VOA as one of their only sources of real information and debate on worldwide issues, may be listening."
"I'm definitely going to start by saying a big aloha from Hawaii to this worldwide audience and inviting them to visit us," said Case. "We all know that Asia generally and China particularly is a huge, untapped market for Hawaii tourism, and this is a unique opportunity to make a contribution."
The Voice of America first went on the air in 1942 and broadcasts more than 1,000 hours of news, information, educational and cultural programming to an estimated worldwide audience of 100 million people. "Issues and Opinions" is a short-wave radio and television program in Mandarin.
The short-wave radio program is beamed to Asia on the frequencies of 11805, 11825, 11990 and 9845, and the television broadcast is distributed overseas through Asia Satellite 2, according to VOA.
The program will begin at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time/3:00 a.m. Hawaiian Standard Time. Hosted by VOA's William Chien, the program will feature Case during a 45-minute question and answer segment with viewers and listeners. VOA will replay the television broadcast in Mandarin online the same day starting at 10 a.m. Eastern/4:00 a.m. Hawaiian Standard Time at http://www.voanews.com/chinese.
