Rep. Elissa Slotkin's Statement on Defending Healthcare Protections

U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08) released the following statement in response to the Administration's refusal to defend the Affordable Care Act or to provide documents or testimony to Congress defending its decision.

The Administration is currently pursuing a suit in federal court to strike down the entire Affordable Care Act, including protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

"The fight to defend Americans' access to affordable health care is a daily one as this Administration chips away at critical protections," Slotkin said. "The Affordable Care Act needs reform, but it affirms two important things: that no American should go broke because they happen to get sick and that people should not be gouged because they happen to be born with a pre-existing condition."

"Unfortunately, the Administration is refusing to defend the law of the land. Allowing the ACA to be erased would have serious consequences, raising costs and threatening coverage, particularly for those with pre-existing conditions. We must continue to fight for transparency from the executive branch and demand it stand by affordable health care for Americans."

Last week, Slotkin gave a powerful speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in defense of a bill to protect people with pre-existing conditions.
