Espaillat Staff Celebrates Earth Day With Day of Action Throughout New York's 13th Congressional District

In recognition of Earth Day 2019, employees in the office of Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) participated in a day of action throughout New York's 13th congressional district to highlight the importance of efforts to protect and preserve the environment and the impact of climate change. In the coming week, Rep. Espaillat will introduce legislation in support and to protect climate and environmental justice in the United States and around the globe.

"On Earth Day, we recommit our efforts to protect our environment and keep our community healthy today and for future generations," said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). "I am encouraged by the progress we have made throughout New York and the 13th congressional district with efforts that incorporate the use of green infrastructure and technology to protect the environment and keep our air, land and water clean.

"We each have an active role to play in keeping our environment healthy, and I am encouraged by the dedicated efforts of members of my staff who volunteered their time on Earth Day to help keep our district vibrant by handing out reusable bags, planting trees, laying mulch, picking up trash and helping with environment-theme arts and crafts with friends, families and constituents. Thank you to the following organizations who participated in the 2019 Earth Day, a day of action in the district: Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, St. James Recreation Center, BroSis, C- town Supermarket, Fine Fare Supermarket, Foodtown Supermarket, Associated Supermarket, Cherry Valley Supermarket, Key Food Supermarket, City Fresh Supermarket, the Marcus Garvey Amphitheater, and New York City Councilmember Vanessa L. Gibson."

"The decisions we make today to preserve and protect our environment will have a lasting impact for generations. I am proud to promote the importance of environmental health in the local community through tree plantings, park cleanings, mulching, composting, and more. In the Council, I am also proud to support a historic package of environmental preservation bills which include a plastic bag tax, and efforts at carbon emissions reductions. There is much more we need to do, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that the generations of our future live in a world that they can be proud of," said NYC Councilmember Vanessa L. Gibson.
