Gov. Rounds HonorsService on Veterans Day 2005

Gov. Mike Rounds offers the following message:

"Friday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. On this occasion, we pause to honor those who served, those who are serving and those who are preparing to serve the greatest nation on earth.

We spend Veterans Day remembering the men and women who have come together to defend America when our borders, our people and our way of life have been threatened.

God bless the families of veterans who have made sacrifices as well. When we honor veterans, it is only right that we thank family members and honor them for their sacrifices."

The governor also invites the state's Vietnam era veterans to register for the upcoming Vietnam War Memorial Dedication. The memorial will feature a 7-foot bronze statue on the Capitol grounds and will be dedicated on Sept. 15-16, 2006.

"I want to make sure they get a personal invitation to the dedication event," Rounds said. "I'm really looking forward to offering them the thank you and welcome home they deserve."

Vietnam era veterans can register at www.sdvietnamwarmemorial.com. The website also includes information about the memorial, dedication event, historical information and instructions for contributing to the memorial's dedication in someone's honor or memory.
