Nothing We Learned Today Exonerates President Trump

Statement

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement after the release of a redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian election interference and Presidential obstruction of justice.

"This report confirms the long-proven, indisputable fact that Russia successfully interfered in our elections to the Trump campaign's benefit -- a significant national security breach. President Trump has repeatedly denied Russian interference, and has even accepted Russian President Vladimir Putin's word over information provided by our own intelligence community.

"The American people today received a detailed look into a presidential campaign that eagerly invited the dissemination of stolen documents in order to win an election. Donald Trump wanted this help, received this help, and continues to lie about it.

"Robert Mueller's report highlights a number of troubling issues, attempts to obstruct justice, and additional criminal investigations that have yet to be made public. It is extremely alarming that the President's associates lied to the Special Counsel and to Congress, and "materially impaired" the investigation into Russian interference. All of this must be fully scrutinized and investigated by Congress until the American people are confident they know exactly what happened, and how we will prevent it from ever happening again.

"Nothing we learned today exonerates President Trump, Congress must be given the full, unredacted report, and the American people must hear directly from Robert Mueller."
