CRAPO APPLAUDS ALITO NOMINATION AS SUPREME COURT JUSTICE

daho Senator Mike Crapo praised the nomination today of Third Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Samuel Alito to be an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Judge Alito has a distinguished background of experience and knowledge," Crapo said. "I look forward to meeting with Judge Alito and learning more about him through his confirmation process. While I am disappointed that Harriet Miers withdrew her nomination, I hope that Judge Alito is given fair consideration by all members of the Senate. It is the duty of the Senate to advise and consent on Supreme Court nominations and I urge my colleagues to participate in his confirmation process in a reasonable way that leads to this nominee receiving an up or down vote on the Senate floor."

The confirmation hearings for Judge Alito's nomination will commence on a schedule to be announced by the Senate Judiciary Committee in coming weeks.
