U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued a statement applauding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for amending the scope of the dredging project on the San Jacinto River near Kingwood to include the removal of sediment deposited to the mouth bar on the West Fork as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

"Today marks the beginning of hurricane preparedness week," Sen. Cruz said. "I am pleased FEMA has taken seriously the responsibility to help Texas prepare for future disasters and reconsider the decision to dredge the mouth bar in the San Jacinto River. Including the Kingwood mouth bar in the San Jacinto River dredging project will prevent future flooding of property and save lives. I applaud FEMA for working with my office, and other federal, state, and local officials to issue a decision that better leverages its assets and funding."
