Dear Acting Secretary Shanahan and Secretary Wilson,

I write to urge the United States Department of Defense to revise the Space A eligibility policy to allow Reservists, National Guardsmen and their dependents to travel Space A on their personal time - a benefit currently provided to Active Duty servicemembers and others.

As you know, Space A travel is a benefit provided to service members, retirees and their dependents that allows them to travel on military flights with a mission at little to no cost. Space A travelers can only board military flights if there is available space after all duty cargo and other passengers have been accommodated. Although availability is never guaranteed, this benefit is a great option for servicemembers and their families traveling with a limited budget.

Our Reservists and National Guardsmen stand ready to serve and protect our nation during our country's most vulnerable times. Whether it be a natural disaster or a period of war, these men and women are there when we need them the most. Allowing Reservists, National Guardsmen and their families to travel Space A would come at little cost to the Department of Defense and would provide a huge benefit to the selfless Reservists and National Guardsmen who stand willing and ready to defend our great country.
