Diaz-Balart: Democratic Leadership Brought Forth Meaningless Resolution that Has No Standing in Court

Statement

Date: April 3, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25) issued the following statement after Democratic leadership brought forth H. Res. 271- "Condemning the Trump Administration's Legal Campaign to Take Away Americans' Health Care."

"This is yet another political statement by the Democratic leadership, who continue playing politics without having American's best interest in mind. If the House Democrats were genuinely interested in enhancing our healthcare system, then they would work with Republicans in Congress and with the Trump Administration on a bipartisan basis to protect coverage for pre-existing conditions, reduce premiums and out-of-pocket costs, lower drug prices, strengthen Medicare and employer-based coverage, and eliminate surprise billing. Instead, this resolution serves merely as a partisan, political PR stunt."

"On the first day of the 116th Congress, I voted on a measure that would have guaranteed Americans health insurance coverage regardless of previous illness or health status, and it would have also ensured that premiums could not be raised as a result of a pre-existing condition. This effort was blocked by the Democratic leadership, who chose to play politics instead of finding real solutions."

"I remain committed to working with my colleagues in Congress to come up with bipartisan, viable solutions that will improve access to healthcare for the American people."
