Representative Adriano Espaillat Statement on Resignation of Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen

Statement

Date: April 8, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement on the resignation of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen:

"Former Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen wreaked havoc throughout immigrant communities around the nation," said Rep. Espaillat. "She carried out some of the Trump Administration's most horrific policies such as the "zero tolerance' policy along the southern border which resulted in the separation of thousands of immigrant children from their families -- children as young as six months old and still breastfeeding, others who have since become orphans, some who were brought to my district under the cover of night that I fought for to reunite with their mothers and fathers, and many who will have lasting traumatic and deep emotional wounds. Heartless and cold in the policies she helped put forth, I wish Former Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen a quick and swift transition as she departs the Trump Administration. I will continue my fight along my Democratic colleagues to ensure families are reunited and America remains a beacon of hope and freedom for all individuals regardless of their nation of birth."
