SENATOR COLLINS COMMENTS ON PRESIDENT'S NOMINATION OF JUDGE SAMUEL ALITO TO THE U.S. SUPREME COURT

WASHINGTON, DC - Senator Susan Collins has released the following statement reacting to President Bush's nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court:

"Judge Alito has an impressive resume and impressive legal credentials. I look forward with meeting with him to learn about his experience and his judicial philosophy, because I do not know him and I am not familiar with his work. In addition, I will follow the Judiciary Committee hearings closely, so that I can better assess his judicial temperament, in addition to how he approaches issues as a judge."
