Rep. Delgado Statement on State of the Union

Statement

Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump delivered the State of the Union:

"The State of the Union is a time for the President to reflect upon the shared goals of our nation and how Congress and the Administration can best serve the people. While I wish the President's speech had focused more on what brings us together, I was glad to hear him discuss some key issues that I think we can all come agree to prioritize, like reducing the price of prescription drugs and strengthening our infrastructure.

"Issues like these that directly affect Upstate New York are what I'm focused on as a Member of Congress. That's why I brought Michael Hickey as my guest, a hero in our community who brought to light the water contamination crisis we know today in Hoosick Falls. Day-in and day-out, I will continue to prioritize protecting our water infrastructure and other critical matters that I hear from the people of my district, from expanding rural broadband to supporting our farmers to improving access to quality health care."

Delgado, a founding member of the bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force, is committed to addressing water contamination, especially given the high levels of PFOA found in Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh. Delgado recently wrote to the Environmental Protection Agency urging it to include a commitment to set maximum contaminant levels for PFOA/PFAS as well as additional provisions to address water contamination in Upstate New York and across the country. Delgado is also a cosponsor of the bipartisan PFAS Action Act that would designate all PFAS chemicals under the Superfund program because they pose serious risks to human health and the environment.

With just over one month serving as the representative for New York's 19th Congressional District, Delgado has put the needs of the district first. He has held three town halls and opened three offices in the district. His appointments to the Agriculture, Small Business, and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees will allow him to prioritize the needs of Upstate New York in Congress.
