Steil Sponsors Bill to Prevent Gun Violence

Statement

This week, Bryan Steil helped introduce the Mass Violence Prevention (MVP) Act of 2019.

"We must be proactive to keep our communities safe. This starts with enforcing laws that prevent gun violence and ensuring crimes are prosecuted. The MVP Act gives the Justice Department additional tools to vigorously pursue criminals who use guns illegally. It empowers law enforcement to go after criminals and focuses on stopping the influx of illegal guns in the black market. This will deter gun violence. By establishing a fusion center at the FBI, law enforcement can streamline information sharing efforts between local, state, and federal agencies to better identify threats."

The Mass Violence Prevention Act does the following:

Establishes a fusion center at the FBI to prevent mass violence
Strengthens penalty for criminals who rob retail firearm stores
Reduces the flow of firearms into the black market
Authorizes the U.S. Department of Justice to hire more gun violence prosecutors
