Rep. Cisneros Statement on Cosponsoring the Bipartisan Divided Families Reunification Act

Today, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) joins his colleagues in introducing the bipartisan Divided Families Reunification Act, which requires the Secretary of State or a designee to consult with officials in South Korea on potential opportunities to reunite Korean American families with family members in North Korea.

"I am proud to be a cosponsor of the bipartisan Divided Families Reunification Act and call for the reunification of Korean families who have been separated for decades across the demilitarized zone (DMZ) on the Korean peninsula and across the Pacific Ocean," said Rep. Cisneros. "Families belong together and family reunification needs to be prioritized in any future negotiations between North Korean and United States officials. Many Korean Americans have waited far too long to reunite with their loved ones and I am hopeful that our legislation will lead to opportunities for these families to once again embrace. I pledge to continue to advocate for family reunification and the certainty that these families deserve."

Rep. Cisneros is an executive board member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC).
