Congressman Gonzalez Statement on Senate Passage of H.J. Res. 46

Press Release

Date: March 15, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) issued the following statement in response to the Senate passing H.J. Res. 46 by a vote of 59-41. The House adopted the measure by a vote of 245-182 on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. The bill now heads to President Donald J. Trump's desk where it is expected to be the first veto of his Presidency.

"The fact that a Republican controlled Senate can pass a measure denouncing the President's egregious use of emergency declaration powers indicates something larger -- the President has exceeded his constitutional authority and must be reined in. I urge the President to refrain from using a veto and allow Congress to function as the true power of the purse."
