Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), member of the House Appropriations Committee, today released the following statement regarding President Trump's FY 2020 budget blueprint, which includes $2.7 trillion in spending cuts to programs that support health care and the environment, among other priorities, while requesting $8.6 billion to construct a southern border barrier:
"President Trump's budget request seems like déjà vu, but somehow worse. Time and time again, he's failed to convince Congress that vital programs that support health care, the environment, and education should be cut or eliminated, and this year will be no different. There is no way this proposal will get through the House in its current form and it's disappointing to see the President continue to put his extreme agenda above the needs of Americans." said Pingree. "Moreover, his budget request uses accounting gimmicks to fund an ineffective border wall that Congress has already rejected."
