Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) issued the following statement regarding the announcement by the White House that President Trump will declare a national emergency to fulfill a broken campaign promise:
"It is an abuse of power for President Trump to declare a national emergency because he failed to fulfill his campaign promise of Mexico paying for his multi-billion dollar border boondoggle. If President Trump cares about border security, he will continue to work with Congress through the FY2020 budget process."
