U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, released the following statement on the Trump Administration's decision to close the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, which has served as a direct link to the Palestinians:

"This one-sided move is the latest U.S. misstep to make peace harder to reach. The Palestinians deserve independent representation with our diplomats in both Jerusalem and Washington. A one-state solution will not work."
