Statement of Governor Warner on the Death of Civil Rights Pioneer Rosa Parks
Governor Mark R. Warner issued the following statement today upon the death of Rosa Parks:
"I am saddened to hear of the death of Rosa Parks, an icon for more than a generation in America's continuing struggle for civil rights.
"The fight for racial equality in our nation is marked by many individual acts of uncommon courage.
"Many of Virginia's civil rights trailblazers were moved and motivated by the example set by Rosa Parks.
"When Mrs. Parks refused to give up her seat on that Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955, she demonstrated quiet fortitude and righteous dignity that helped awaken the conscience of this nation."
