U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women's Issues, today released the following statement after meeting with newly appointed Venezuelan Chargé d'affaires Carlos Vecchio, OAS Special Representative Gustavo Tarre Briceño, Congressman and Ambassador to the Lima Group Julio Borges, the Coordinator of the OAS Working Group David Smolansky, Congressman José Manuel Olivares, and Francisco Márquez:
"The U.S. stands in support of Provisional President Juan Guaidó and his newly appointed emissaries to the U.S., Carlos Vecchio and Gustavo Tarre Briceño. As Venezuela's road to democracy begins, the U.S. and its regional allies have a duty to support their restoration of democratic order and freedom. I will continue to work closely with the Trump Administration, which has shown tremendous leadership advocating for the Venezuelan people."
