Ranking Member Womack on Introduction of No Budget, No Recess Act

Statement

House Budget Committee Ranking Member Steve Womack (R-AR) today released the following statement after the introduction of H.R. 1059, the No Budget, No Recess Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would require live quorum calls in the House if Congress has not adopted a budget by April 15th of each calendar year, or if Congress fails to pass annual appropriations bills, which fund cabinet departments and agencies, by the end of the fiscal year.

"Members should be held responsible if we don't fulfill our mandated duties. When Congress fails to meet key budget deadlines, we should be required to stay in town until the job is done. This legislation will ensure just that, while also increasing accountability and making the budget process stronger. I appreciate the continued effort by Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX) who has worked tirelessly on this important issue.
