House Budget Committee Ranking Member Steve Womack issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released its annual Budget and Economic Outlook. CBO's report provides the agency's economic and budget projections for 2019 to 2029. In the congressional budget process, this report is used as a neutral benchmark when the committee considers the effects of policy options and ultimately sets topline spending numbers in the budget resolution.
"There is no denying that our nation has fiscal challenges, and the newly released Budget and Economic Outlook report from the CBO highlights that point. It is my hope that my Democratic colleagues agree with this and have a plan to address our exploding debt. I look forward to hearing their plan, as well as discussing the CBO's findings with Director Hall, at tomorrow's hearing. We have a moral obligation to future generations to get our fiscal house in order."
Ranking Member Womack and members of the committee will hold a hearing on CBO's Budget and Economic Outlook report with CBO Director Dr. Keith Hall on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 10:00am.
