Today, U.S. Representative Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) a member of House Democratic leadership and the Judiciary Committee, released the following statement:

"The relationship between the United States and Israel is a special one that is rooted in our shared values, an important strategic partnership in the Middle East and a mutual commitment to a lasting two state solution between Israel and a demilitarized Palestinian state.

The Senate has acted and now it's time for the House to work its will through the committee process and regular order. Israel lives in a tough neighborhood and is surrounded by enemies. Therefore, it is vital that we maintain Israel's qualitative military edge in a bipartisan way. We are prepared to tackle this objective.

The Congress should also reject any effort to delegitimize Israel and undermine its character as a Jewish and Democratic state. I look forward to working closely with Chairman Eliot Engel in that regard."
