President Bush Signs Homeland Security Bill

WASHINGTON, DC - At an official ceremony today at the White House, President George W. Bush signed into law a bill that funds America's homeland security efforts over the next year. The $30.8 billion legislation, which was authored by U.S. Representative Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05), funds domestic security efforts such as emergency response, border protection, and transportation security. Rogers stood with President Bush as the legislation was signed into law.

"While the federal government rightfully continues to focus much time and attention on Gulf Coast relief efforts, we must also continue working to put resources in place to protect our nation as a whole," Rogers said today. "This bill seeks to achieve that goal by funding a wide range of activities, including first responder training, aviation security, and immigration enforcement activities." Rogers added, "Under the leadership of President Bush and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, our domestic security efforts are taking important strides forward. With the approval of this legislation, we are sending a clear message that the United States remains committed to protecting our homeland and the American people."
