Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement in response to today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to allow President Trump's broad ban to prevent transgender individuals from serving in the military to go into effect.

"President Trump's policy to ban transgender Americans from serving in our military is a cruel arbitrament as today's decision by the Supreme Court to allow such restrictions to play out in the lower courts is deeply disturbing," said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). "The brave individuals who wear our nation's uniform are ready to defend and uphold the freedoms Americans enjoy daily, yet President Trump and his administration have turned their backs on them while implementing a policy that is not only discriminatory and bigoted, but severely weakens our military preparedness and our national security. This is not who we are as a nation and is inconsistent with our values. Democrats will continue our fight to ensure that brave individuals who enter military service are afforded the opportunity to do so without discrimination based on this administration's reckless policies."
