President Trump Can't Use The Military To Circumvent Congress

Statement

Date: Dec. 11, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) issued the following statement after the President Trump proposed using "the Military" to build a border wall and claimed the "Border is now Secure."

"The President cannot circumvent Congress and use the military to build his absurd, ineffective border wall, and if the border is as secure as the President claims, then he must immediately bring troops deployed to the border home for the holidays," said Congressman Anthony Brown. "The President betrays our servicemembers with this dubious deployment. They are duty-bound, but did not enlist to serve as a bargaining chip for the President in the negotiations over his border wall.

"President Trump continually disrespects members of the military by denigrating veterans, refusing to visit combat zones, degrading troop morale, and needlessly taking servicemembers away from their homes for the holidays. The impact the President's actions have on readiness cannot be overstated, and his misuse of the military and inability to understand his role as Commander-in-chief is extraordinarily unbecoming of the Office of the President."
