Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after the Trump Administration's Federal Commission on School Safety released its final report.
"This report is nothing but a bait and switch from President Trump and Secretary DeVos. After the terrible tragedy of the Parkland shooting, the President promised a roomful of students and an anxious nation that he would take action to reduce gun violence in our schools. Instead, his commission--chaired by Secretary DeVos--sidesteps the issue of guns, fails to advance real solutions to keep our students safe, blames the media, and serves as a Trojan horse for rollbacks that would hurt students."
"The hypocrisy of the commission's report is egregious. Secretary DeVos used public dollars to conduct a sham review of solutions to gun violence, while Republicans strenuously fight to block the federal government from doing real research into this issue. The epidemic of gun violence--which has hurt or killed thousands of American children--is a public health crisis that demands serious investigation. Our nation's children and their families deserve action, not empty rhetoric as the Trump administration gives another gift to the gun lobby."
