VA Announces Changes to GI Bill Payments in the Wake of Carter Letter Demanding Answers

Statement

Date: Nov. 28, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Congressman Carter released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs announced a temporary policy for GI Bill payments.

"I'm pleased to see the Department of Veterans Affairs implementing temporary changes to ensure our veterans receive the benefits they're owed. As the VA Appropriations Chairman, I expect the VA to solve these problems swiftly, and take the necessary steps to ensure these issues do not happen again. Many veterans and their families rely on GI Bill payments for education and housing expenses, so a lapse in these benefits can have significant consequences. I'm glad that beginning December 1st, the VA will be implementing a system to rectify these delayed and missing payments so veterans and their families can go into the holiday season with a bit more stability."
