Rep. Calvert Praises the STEP Conference and Highlights Need for Better Science Education

WASHINGTON, DC - Rep. Ken Calvert (R-Corona) congratulated organizers of the sixth annual Science and Technology Education Partnership (STEP) conference, which finished today. The STEP conference aims to encourage kids to be excited about the hard sciences. Rep. Ken Calvert serves on the House Science Committee and is Chairman of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee.

"The STEP conference shows kids that science can be fun and a worthy career choice," said Rep. Calvert. "As Honorary Chairman of the STEP Committee, I have had the opportunity to attend past STEP conferences and I know how excited kids get once they see science in action. America's future depends on our technological innovation through the hard sciences. The fact that China graduates more engineers almost every month than the U.S. does in a year is a serious concern. I am committed to improving science education in America, which I believe we can do if we inspire our kids through science programs. That is one reason I believe in the Vision for Space Exploration, which will take us back to the Moon and then to Mars and beyond.
