Statement Of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell On The Passing Of Senator Strom Thurmond

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell released the following statement today in response to the death of Senator Strom Thurmond:

"Last night, our Nation learned of the passing of an American political icon, a dedicated Senator, patriot, and war hero. While many will recall Senator Thurmond's half-century career on the political stage, I shall fondly remember the many kindnesses he extended to me and my family. He was big-hearted, gentle man and I will count it as one of my life's honors to have served with him in the United States Senate. Elaine's and my prayers go out to his family and the people of South Carolina."
