Statement of Gov. Mike Rounds Concerning the Big Stone II Project Announcement

Gov. Mike Rounds has issued the following statement concerning the Big Stone II transmission and emissions announcement in Sioux Falls at 3 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2005:

"This is great news. The sponsors of the Big Stone II project are spending millions of dollars more than required by law so that emissions from two power plants will be equal to or less than the emissions from the current one power plant. That means cleaner air for many decades. They are doing what's right for future generations.

The additional capacity on the transmission line going east will also allow more wind power development in South Dakota and Minnesota if additional transmission is approved by Minnesota regulators."
