Veterans Day: God bless the brave men and women who serve

Today, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we both celebrate and mourn. We celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice ending the "War to End all Wars" and the peace achieved throughout the years by the sacrifice of our men and women who answer the call to defend our nation. But we also mourn the loss of so many, often young, lives in solemn recognition that the nature of fallen man means that there have been so many wars since.

As President Reagan said in recognition of Veterans Day in 1985: "Peace fails when we forget what we stand for. It fails when we forget that our Republic is based on firm principles, that with them we are the last best hope of man."

God bless the brave men and women who serve and have served in defense of our nation. As my friend and fellow Congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw said, "We'll never forget the sacrifices made by veterans past and present…Never forget." We thank you, Veterans.
