Rep.-elect Mike Levin Supports a Green New Deal

Statement

Date: Dec. 4, 2018
Issues: Environment

President Trump may not believe it, but the scientific consensus is in: climate change is real, it's here, and it's going to be disastrous for our communities unless we take action immediately.

I'm proud to stand with several fellow new members of Congress in calling for a new House Select Committee on Climate Change and a Green New Deal that will help mitigate climate change while creating the clean energy jobs of the future.

Since the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming was disbanded with Republicans' control of the House, Congress has lacked a committee fully dedicated to climate change. That's why it's imperative we form a new select committee to shine a light on this issue and start creating transformative policy reforms to address it, like a Green New Deal.

A Green New Deal can help us transition to a 100-percent renewable energy economy, build a national smart grid, make green technology a major export, reduce carbon emissions in the agriculture and manufacturing industries, create jobs, and so much more.

I'm ready to help lead our country on a path toward more renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and clean transportation to help mitigate climate change.

Thanks for standing with me.
