Senator Murray Reiterates Call to Send Troops at Southern U.S. Border Home Immediately

Statement

Date: Nov. 22, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement:

"Instead of being at home with their loved ones, today thousands of U.S. servicemen and women, including a number of soldiers from JBLM, are spending the Thanksgiving holiday on an unnecessary deployment on the Southern U.S. border at the behest of President Trump. I reiterate my call to end this operation immediately, and to stop using troops and taxpayer dollars to fulfill what appears to be nothing more than the president's politically-motivated scheme."

On Monday, Senator Murray and Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) urged Defense Secretary Mattis to send troops home this week, noting that the Department of Defense had thus far failed to demonstrate that asylum seekers pose a national security threat.
