After Donald Trump claimed he will end birthright citizenship one week before Election Day, JB Pritzker released the following statement:
"Donald Trump's suggestion that he can singlehandedly invalidate the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment and end birthright citizenship is ridiculous and repugnant. It's political pandering at its worst," said JB Pritzker. "Immigrant families make our state and our country strong. We achieve together what we could not alone, and that is only possible by welcoming people of all backgrounds, countries, and creeds. Sowing division and fear to advance a political agenda is not who we are as Americans. Sending immigrant families -- mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, grandparents and cousins -- into the shadows is just wrong, and we cannot let it stand. As governor, I will use every tool at my disposal to fight these bigoted actions and make sure every Illinois family knows they can safely call our state home."
